Give In May Launches Nationwide Campaign to Support Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Nonprofits During Heritage Month
Month-long initiative mobilizes grassroots giving and expands support for Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander communities.
May 1, 2022 – Give In May, a national fundraising campaign held in celebration of Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, officially launches today. Now in its seventh year, the campaign runs from May 1-31 and brings together nonprofits, donors, and community partners to raise funds, increase visibility, and strengthen support for AAPI communities across the country.
Hosted by AAPI Data and Bolder Futures, Give In May 2026 is supported by leading philanthropic partners, including Asian Pacific Community Fund, Korean American Community Foundation of New York, Asian Americans / Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy, Asian Pacific Fund, and The Asian American Foundation (TAAF).
“Give In May is about putting community at the center of philanthropy,” said Karthick Ramakrishnan, Executive Director of AAPI Data and Founder of Bolder Futures. “We created this collaborative campaign in 2020 to not only drive resources to AAPI-serving organizations, but to strengthen their voice, visibility, and long-term capacity. When people come together to support causes they care about, it creates a ripple effect that extends far beyond a single month.”
The campaign comes at a critical moment. Despite being one of the fastest-growing populations in the United States, AAPI communities remain significantly underfunded, receiving only a small fraction of philanthropic dollars, according to research by Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP). At the same time, community-driven giving continues to grow, with recent research from AAPI Data showing that AAPI adults are more likely than the national average to participate in crowdfunding efforts.
“Give In May is more than a fundraising campaign — it is a call to action rooted in the belief that investing in people is how we build thriving communities,” said Chun-Yen Chen, Executive Director of the Asian Pacific Community Fund. “At APCF, our mission is to cultivate AANHPI philanthropy by connecting donors, nonprofits, and community members around a shared purpose. AANHPI communities have always shown up for one another, and Give In May is our invitation to the broader public to answer that same calling. Whether you give $5 or $500, your investment matters. Join us this May.”
“Give In May is a powerful example of what’s possible when philanthropy is rooted in community,” said Kyung Yoon, President and CEO of the Korean American Community Foundation (KACF). “For the past six years, we’ve seen how investing in community-led organizations drives meaningful, lasting change, elevating nonprofits working every day to meet the needs of their communities.”
“Since such a small fraction, just 0.34% of institutional funding, makes its way to AANHPI communities, our hope is that institutional philanthropy engages with Give in May to learn more about the critical organizations serving our communities and consider expanding their investments,” said Connie Chung Joe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders in Philanthropy (AAPIP).
“Give In May reflects the power of community-driven philanthropy to uplift Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander communities,” said Tamara Chao, President and Executive Director of Asian Pacific Fund. “At a time when our communities continue to face both longstanding inequities and emerging challenges, initiatives like Give In May help mobilize critical resources and amplify the voices of organizations working on the ground. We’re proud to support a campaign that not only raises funds, but strengthens connection and long-term capacity across the AANHPI nonprofit sector.”
“The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) is proud to sponsor the Give In May campaign,” said Norman Chen, CEO of TAAF. “Our collective future depends on how we show up for the people and organizations that selflessly serve our communities, and the nonprofits participating in this effort are creating a critical ecosystem of support that advances safety, belonging, and prosperity for Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders across the country.”
